Gone..
We found out today that a girl from the class of '05 died in Iraq. It's wierd...I know I'm being self centered instead of sad...but I can't help but think about the fact that she was where I was, right now. Now she's gone...it's crazy.

I know what you mean, Adam. I graduated in the class of 2002 at Boston University, just months of 9-11. At our ceremony we gave a standing ovation to the parents of a girl who had just graduated in May 2001 and had died on the American Airlines flight that crashed into the WTC. I didn't know her, but it was weird to know that someone who lived on campus could wind up dying that way. Sorry for your community's loss.
That the girl you're talking about was my platoon sergeant, then my battalion sergeant major (and, as we all know, she ended up as the brigade sergeant major).
What really hits me is that, as much as I hated her leadership style and self-serving personality (which is what I, as well as my classmates, knew her as around my company), I never wished anything like this on her.
